9:00-9:30: Registration
9:30-11:15: Where do You Go to Afford the Care You Need?
This will be a panel discussion with safety-net Health Care Providers who serve the uninsured underinsured and those on the edge. Pharmaceutical representatives will also be available to answer questions about prescription and glucose strip assistance.
11:15- 12:15: Talk to The Professionals
Physicians, Podiatrist, Dentist, Ophthalmologist; Nephrologists, Dietitians and Certified Diabetes Educators
12:15-1:15: Lunch with Dr. Carmen Samuel-Hodge
Dr. Samuel-Hodge is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and School of Medicine. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke University's School of Medicine. Dr. Samuel-Hodge is from the U.S. Virgin Islands and has worked extensively with maternal and child health, and chronic disease risk reduction programs among minority and underserved individuals. Her research has focused on behavioral weight loss interventions, weight loss maintenance, clinical and community-based diabetes self-management training interventions among African Americans with type 2 diabetes, and lifestyle interventions using peer counselors (community and church diabetes advisors).
