- Two public information and media services articles appeared in the News & Observer and were also picked up by the Charlotte Observer as part of a 5 story series on diabetes and obesity. The 1st appeared on Saturday January 1, 2011. Maureen Leslie, one of Project DIRECT's Community Health Ambassador's was recognized in where she discussed her diabetes, what she has learned from the program, and how the program has benefitted her.

- The 2nd article (January 4, 2011) featured Diana Koenning, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, helps diabetic Pamela Gibbs, a Community Health Ambassador (CHA) make smart food choices at a Project DIRECT food demo.

- CHAP program hosted a 22-Hour Ambassador Training on January 28, 29 and February 4, 5, 2011 where 28 Ambassadors were trained. (Upon completion, Ambassadors received a certificate from Wake Tech Community College for 2.2 hours of continuing education, a certificate from STBF, and a $$$ gift card)

Project Direct
The Project DIRECT ADA Recognition Diabetes Self Management Education Program targets the financially needy (those who receive Medicaid, Medicare, are uninsured or who earn less than the 200% of poverty income level). With the doctor’s referral, clients will be enrolled into the Diabetes Self Management Training and Medical Nutrition Therapy sessions. Project DIRECT will need access to each client’s clinical lab values. Project DIRECT is open to all persons with diabetes.
